Engine Revving Now A Fineable Offense
At its Aug. 3 meeting, the City Council voted 6-3 to amend the vehicle nuisance ordinance to include engine revving.
Under the ordinance, it is now illegal for drivers to willfully create excess engine noise in Albuquerque. The ordinance was initially set to apply only to Downtown, but Councilor Sally Mayer proposed, and the Council passed, an amendment to stretch it citywide. Violating the ordinance could result in up to a $500 fine or 90 days in jail.
Councilors Mayer, Isaac Benton, Debbie O’Malley, Brad Winter, Trudy Jones and Don Harris voted in favor of the ordinance, while Councilors Ken Sanchez, Michael Cadigan and Rey Garduño voted against it.
