Tiny Homes Village Survey for District 9

City Councilor Don Harris wants to hear from his constituents about the proposal

Dear District 9 Residents:

Bernalillo County is having an important meeting this Thursday, August 9th at 6:00 p.m. at the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center (501 Elizabeth St. SE) regarding the Tiny Home Village proposal.

The meeting will be to gather public input and to provide education regarding the County’s proposal to address homelessness through the Tiny Home Village option.  The County seeks to “identify the scope of services, selection criteria and a project timeline for an organization that would oversee the planning and development of the tiny home village site and operations project.” More information can be obtained at the Bernalillo County website.

I encourage you to go to the meeting and to consider the proposals carefully.  The working group with the County has proposed six potential sites for the first tiny homes village.  Three of those sites are on or near East Central.

I sponsored the East Gateway Redevelopment Plan and the Route 66 Action Plan as your City Councilor.  They passed unanimously.  Those legislative enactments seek to encourage the revitalization and redevelopment along East Central, the historic Route 66 “Mother Road” and the east gateway to our City.  I do have concerns whether a Tiny Home Village is consistent with those established City policies.

We can all appreciate efforts that seek to address a difficult problem.  I will listen to the community before I commit to a firm position on your behalf. My office has created a shareable link to a Tiny Home Village survey. If you live in District 9,  please fill out the survey and let me know what your thoughts are on the proposed project.

I will be out of town on August 9th as every year I take a vacation with my children, and I will be with them at that time.

I will be following this issue carefully and will decide how to proceed after I hear from the residents of District 9. Please feel free to contact my office with your thoughts and concerns.

Have a wonderful rest of your summer and we will be in touch soon.

Sincerely,

Don
