Expanded Rail Runner Service for Labor Day Weekend -
but NO SERVICE on Labor Day Monday!
Take the Rail Runner to Burning of Zozobra in Santa Fe and Mountain West Brew Fest in Bernalillo!
To kick off Labor Day Weekend festivities, the New Mexico Rail Runner Express will adjust the train schedule to allow people to attend the 91st Annual Burning of Zozobra on Friday, September 4th. Passengers traveling to Santa Fe for the event can take advantage of a later post-event departure time, as well as the addition of a second late-night southbound train. Combined, the two five-car train sets can seat more than 1,400 passengers.
Additionally, extra trains will be operating for the Mountain West Brew Fest in Bernalillo over Labor Day Weekend on Saturday, September 5th, and Sunday, September 6th. People taking the train can catch a free shuttle from the Sandoval Co./US 550 Station, or take a short walk to the event.
“With both Zozobra and the Mountain West Brew Fest going on over the Labor Day Weekend, people will have lots of choices when it comes to riding the train to and from both events“, says Dewey Cave, Executive Director for the Mid-Region Council of Governments. “The Rail Runner provides a comfortable and convenient option to get to both events without the hassle of traffic and parking”.
PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE NO RAIL RUNNER SERVICE ON LABOR DAY - MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH
About The Burning of Zozobra
Zozobra (Old Man Gloom) is a giant marionette effigy that is built and burned every year by the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe to kick off Fiestas de Santa Fe. As his name suggests, he embodies gloom; by burning him, people destroy the worries and troubles of the previous year in the flames. Anyone with an excess of gloom is encouraged to write down the nature of his or her gloom on a slip of paper and it will be stuffed into Zozobra and burned.
About the Mountain West Brew Fest
The Mountain West Brew Fest takes place on September 5 & 6, 2015, the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend at Loretto Park in Bernalillo. This inaugural craft beer event will feature breweries from across New Mexico and the Mountain West Region, as well as food trucks and carts, a grower’s market and live entertainment.
