The purpose of the plan is to provide for growth while maintaining and respecting the existing rural character of the community and the agricultural traditions and settlement patterns that could otherwise be lost due to new development and urbanization.A draft version is available of the vision and goals statements plan that was compiled from the February 2009 Workshop. The worshop document reflects vision and goal statements developed from identified issues and opportunities discussed by members of Los Duranes community, as well as, additional background information.
Interested residents can also look at a Review Draft of the Los Duranes Sector Plan. This draft is a result of the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County working with Los Druranes residents, community organizations, and local businesses. Further neighborhood meetings are planned to make the final Los Duranes Sector Plan Update even better.
Meetings
The City of Albuquerque encourages residents and interested citizens to attend the neighborhood and community meetings. Meetings are a chance for residents to introduce viewpoints and ideas that will improve the Los Duranes Sector Plan and benefit the entire community. The City of Albuquerque looks forward to receiving your input on the plan update. Contact Information is available for those who cannot attend the meetings to provide input and feedback.

Goals
The goals of the planning effort are to:
- Maintain the rural character of the neighborhood. LDSPUlittlechapel.JPG
- Preserve and maintain the irrigated agricultural lands and acequias that still serve the area.
- Protect the narrow roadways and traditional neighborhood street patterns.
- Preserve access and connections to the Rio Grande.
- Maintain and respect the ownership and traditional land uses of the older families.
- Create guidelines and standards for new development that are in harmony with the neighborhood character.
- Achieve a level of neighborhood ownership and excitement on the Los Duranes Sector Development Plan.
- Produce a plan that is community driven.
The community selected and the City hired Community by Design, a planning firm based in Taos, to help meet the goals of the planning process. The consultant, city staff and neighborhood representatives have had several planning meetings and on November 24, 2008 they took a bike tour of the Los Duranes community.
