Winrock Newsletter from Summer 2014
Message from Darin Sand, VP of Development
I am pleased to announce that Goodman Realty Group is launching a newsletter to keep residents who live in the Winrock area informed about the Winrock redevelopment.
Winrock Town Center will be the state’s premier live, work, play, learn and shop destination, offering an exceptional quality of life to all who visit or live there.
The Center is planned to have:
- over one million square feet of retail and entertainment
- 200,000 square feet of office space
- a few hundred residential units
- a 160 room hotel
- and a beautiful central park for the whole community to enjoy.
We aim to be a good neighbor, therefore, we will continue to meet with the neighborhood, and this newsletter will serve to keep you up-to-date. If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to call me at 505-881-0100 ext. 111.
Dave and Buster’s Under Construction
Today there’s only one place where you can eat fun gourmet food, AND play the biggest and best arcade games around - all under one roof! That’s Dave and Buster’s! The action-packed, extreme fun experience is under construction at the site of the former Winrock 6 movie theater. Dave and Buster’s plans to open this fall and will be a great addition to the outstanding selection of restaurants and entertainment venues in the area.
As a part of the Dave & Buster’s construction, we are creating a new access point just east of the building. There have been concerns about cut-through traffic from this northbound exit onto Espanola Street. We have worked with the ABQ Park Neighborhood Association, local businesses and the City of Albuquerque to alleviate this concern. The result is a traffic diverter in the Winrock northbound exit lanes forcing vehicles to either turn left or right onto Indian School Road.
Plans Delayed on Joe’s Crab Shack
Fans of Joe’s Crab Shack will have to wait a little while longer to get crackin’. We are currently working with the restaurant to finalize details for the Winrock location. We’ll keep you posted on the progress.
Shop ‘Til You Drop at Nordstrom Rack and DSW
Nordstrom Rack and DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) will open at Winrock in 2016.
Nordstrom Rack offers customers a wide selection of on-trend apparel, accessories, and shoes at an everyday savings of 30-70% off regular prices. The Rack is designed to provide the ultimate treasure hunt to style-savvy customers.
DSW is a leading brand footwear and accessories retailer that offers a huge selection of brand name and designer footwear and accessories for women, men, and kids at great prices. DSW has nearly 400 stores across the United States and Puerto Rico.
Live the Good Life at Winrock
You may be wondering why the Christmas tree lot is still vacant. The proposed multi-family residences on the corner of Indian School Road and Pennsylvania Avenue are still in motion. We’ve been working on final contractual details and will begin the design phase soon.
South Loop Road Traffic
Recently, we installed traffic humps, speed limit signs, and pedestrian crossing signs on the Loop Road south of Regal Theater. This has made a significant difference in slowing down traffic and making this area safer for pedestrians.
We know that water is precious, especially here in the Southwest. To do our part and help educate the community in water conservation strategies, we have implemented a couple of measures at the Regal Theater to minimize water waste. First, we have installed a water treatment system that purifies all the sink water from the theater. This water is then used to irrigate the landscape surrounding the theater. Secondly, we capture the rainwater off of the theater’s roof and direct it into a 20,000 gallon cistern located underneath the parking lot. This water is also used to irrigate the plants and trees.
A key element of Winrock Town Center will be its central park. The park will be a community gathering place with quaint cafes, an outdoor performance space during the summer that will be transformed into an ice skating rink during the winter, a gazebo, walking trials, children’s play area, a unique water feature (filled with recycled water) and other amenities. You can get a sense for how the park will look and feel by viewing our YouTube video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koujYDxQUQ0.
We are currently negotiating with many other national and local retailers. As soon as we finalize the details, we’ll let you know who else will be part of this exciting community!
