Description

Senator Heinrich’s office, Councilor Benton & the City of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, the Rio Grande Community Development Corporation, and a group of community organizations from the South Valley, Barelas, Downtown, and neighboring communities invite you to participate in an application to designate our neighborhoods as a federal “Promise Zone”.

Benefit of Promise Zone Designation

The Promise zone designation does not come with funding, but does provide:

  • Priority consideration and preference for federal grants
  • Priority access to pilot programs
  • 2 full-time HUD staff to support program development
  • Preference for Americorps volunteers

We need your help!

To receive this designation, we need to develop comprehensive strategies in education, violence prevention, and economic development (including job creation and private investment) for the entire Promise Zone. To help us, we’re looking for:

  • Community organizations
  • Neighborhood associations
  • Economic development organizations
  • High schools
  • Community schools
  • Charter schools
  • Community development organizations

We need an inclusive list of partner organizations to develop these 3 strategies, and we need your help to make sure we have all the right people engaged. We need organizations that are willing to provide ideas, and we need organizations that are willing to give their time and energy to support the writing of this application over the next several months.

Meeting Details

Our next meeting is Thursday, August 28th, 5:30 – 7pm at the City Council Committee Room, 9th floor, 1 Civic Plaza. We’ll review the Promise Zone application and benefits, and then split into groups for each of the three focus areas and work on broad strategies for each area. Please forward this along to anyone who might be a good fit!
