Mayor Martin J. Chávez today announced that Moviemaker Magazine named Albuquerque for 2008 one of the “Top 10 Places to Live, Work and Make Movies.”
Moviemaker Magazine ranked Albuquerque #2 in the US for best place to live, work and make movies.
“Two years ago we weren’t on the list,” said Mayor Martin Chávez, “last year (2007) we were #4.”
Moviemaker says, “In 2008, it’s the city to beat – or at least the one that other film offices can look to as an example of what to do right.”

On Thursday, January 10th 2008, Mayor Martin J. Chávez announced, with City Councilor Ken Sanchez and Director of Parks and Recreation Jay Hart, the ground breaking of Phase 5 of the Tower Pond Community Park (map).
“The fifth phase includes an off-leash dog exercise area, two areas of irrigated turf grass for sport fields, a 10-foot wide walking path, and landscaping along Tower Road,” said the Mayor.
Phase 5 is estimated to cost $950,000. The funding comes from the 2005 and 2007 Community Park Development – General Obligation Bond and $200,000 from a 2007 State Grant.
Other completed phases of the park include:
Phase 1: Fencing, dugouts, shade structures and parking lot for Westgate Little League
Phase 2: Parking lot paving
Phase 3: Children’s play area and modular skate park
Phase 4: Artificial turf grass on all 4 fields and concession building for Westgate Little League
