Fit City Challenge Answered!

stretching.jpg When one thinks of Albuquerque one usually imagines a beautiful sunset, miles of open space, and, and …the fittest city in the country? Yes that’s right. (Another line we can all add to our vocabulary when selling Albuquerque) Rack another accolade up for US, as Fittest City in the Country!

Men’s Fitness Magazine ranked the top 25 fittest and fattest cities in the country. The top 5 of the of the fittest cities this year are Albuquerque, Seattle, Colorado Springs, Minneapolis, and Tucson. The criteria set by the Magazine were how many bars per capita, how much of your population participate in physical activities, ratio of open space, and fast-food restaurants per capita.

On top of Albuquerque being named the fittest city, Mayor Chávez was named the fittest Mayor in the Country after he launched the Fit City Challenge. Click here to join the Challenge.

Mayor Chávez stated, “Albuquerque has built a new tradition of being one of the fittest and healthiest cities in America, the Fit City Challenge celebrates and builds on this tradition to assure that Albuquerque will stay on the list for years to come.”

Mayor Chávez, a "Cool Mayor"?

mayor.jpgWhat do the Mayors of Salt Lake City, New York City, Arlington,TX Des Moines, Atlanta, and Seattle all have in common with our very own Mayor Chávez?

The answer is all of them are working on solutions to global climate change and leading the charge for others to get on board as well. All of them can be found at www.coolmayors.org.

The site, called, “cool mayors for climate protection” is an insightful and easy to use website that gives communities best practices, tool kits, and up-to-date news on the fight to mitigate global climate change.

All seven Mayors are given titles that go along with their style. Mayor Bloomberg is noted as being “Mr. Pragmatic,” and the Mayor Nickels of Seattle as being “The Instigator.” Our Mayor was given the title -- “The Visionary.”
