Low Flow Toilet Conversion Rebate Raised to $150

heinrich.jpgAlbuquerque City Councilor Martin Heinrich, recently elected Chair of the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority, is pleased to announce the raising of the rebate amount available for converting from high-flow toilets to low-flow toilets for 2007 to $150 for each toilet for all our customers.

Residents who take advantage of the program receive a $150.00 offset on their water bill. For example, if one qualifies for a $150 rebate, and their monthly water bill is only $25, they will have a credit balance for six months. The rebate applies to the total bill for water, sewer, and refuse.

low-flow.jpgIn 2008, the rebate will be reduced to $125 and in 2009 it will be decreased to $100. At the end of 2009, the toilet rebate program will end. The program decreases the rebates over a three-year period in order to encourage customers to participate this year.

Toilets are responsible for over 30% of indoor residential water use. It is estimated that there are about 200,000 high flow toilets that have not been replaced in our service area. If each of those toilets were to be converted, over 1 billion gallons of water would be saved each year in our community.
