This panel brings together several generations of Red Power activists from its founders to its present day participants, who will comment on its legacy in New Mexico. Panel moderated by Dr. Nick Estes, guest curator for the exhibition.

Joining Dr. Nick Estes on the panel is Jennifer Denetdale, Simon Ortiz, and Jennifer Marley.

A citizen of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe, Dr. Nick Estes is an Assistant Professor of American Studies at the University of New Mexico. He is a historian, journalist, and a founding editor of Red Media Collective, which publishes books, podcasts, and stories highlighting Indigenous intelligence in all its forms. He is the author of the book Our History is the Future: Standing Rock Versus the Dakota Access Pipeline, and the Long Tradition of Indigenous Resistance.

Jennnifer Denetadale (Diné) is a historian and professor of American Studies and the director of the Institute for American Indian Research (IFAIR) at the University of New Mexico. She has served on the Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission for nine years and served as its chair for four years, from 2016 to 2020.

Dr. Simon Ortiz is a retired Regents Professor at Arizona State University, writer-poet-editor, author of numerous books all focused on Indigenous (Native) community, history, cultural-social-identity, political struggles, resistance. He is a member of Acoma Pueblo Nation, member of the Dyaaami Hanoh (Eagle Clan), former tribal Interpreter and 1st Lt. Governor of Acoma.

Jennifer Marley is a Ph.D. student in the American Studies department at the University of New Mexico. Jennifer entered the program having completed a B.A. with a double major in Native American Studies and American studies from the University of New Mexico (2019). Marley is a citizen of San Ildefonso Pueblo.
