Open Burn Program

Information about the Open Burn Program.

The City of Albuquerque works to protect our community from the dangers of open burning.

Organizations, businesses, and individuals can also apply for open burning permits for specific purposes. Most open burning permits that are issued fall into one of the following categories:

Common Activities Requiring an Open Burn Permit
Forest management
Laboratory research and development
Professional disposal of explosives
Professional detonations of more than 20 pounds of explosives
Fire fighter and rescue training
Hot torch burning of weeds on public property (ditches, channels)
Agricultural burning

PB 1 and 2 Waiver Request FormMS Word 242kb The burner shall fill out this waiver request form completely if requesting a waiver from a requirement that can be waived by the Department.
Smoke Management PB-I R1MS Word 175kb This registration form shall be filled out completely by any users of prescribed fire that intend to burn or do burn more than ten (10) acres, or more than 1,000 cubic feet but less than 5,000 cubic feet of pile volume of vegetative material per day or emits less than one ton of PM10 emissions per day.
Smoke Management PB-II R1 Registration MS Word 294kb This registration form shall be filled out completely by any users of prescribed fire that intend to burn or do burn more than ten (10) acres, or more than 1,000 cubic feet, but greater than 5,000 cubic feet of pile volume of vegetative material per day or emits one (1) ton or more of PM10 emissions per day.
Smoke Tracking FormMS Word 175kb This form is to be completed the day of the burn and shall be submitted to the Department within two weeks following completion of burn project. For PB-I and PB-II burns.
Smoke Management PB-II ERT FormMS Word 217kb The burner shall implement at least one Emission Reduction Technique (ERT)to be used in conjunction with fire and do not replace fire.
Part 21 Conditional Open Burn Form MS Word 216kb This form shall be filled out completely to provide notification to the Department for open burns, and shall comply with local fire and safety codes.
Part 21 Single and Multiple Event Open Burn Form MS Word 233kb This form shall be filled out completely by a person seeking a multiple or single event open burn permit.
Ventilation Category (Excel)
  Use this form to document the ventilation category for the burn for all burn days. This form will be used for informational purposes to determine the number of times the ventilation was good or better and how often the waiver needed to be implemented.
Visual Monitoring (Excel) Use this form to document the visual monitoring for the burn for poor ventilation category burn days. It will meet your requirements for documenting visual monitoring on the day of the burn.
