ABOUT THE EVENT
Please join us as we celebrate 75 years of the Albuquerque International Sunport! We are celebrating in style with a 5k Run/Walk, Airplane Pull and Family Friendly Activities. Sign up for the 5k Run/Walk, Airplane Pull or both! If neither of those interests you, just bring the family out for live music, food trucks and kids’ activities. Entrance to the event is free while registration for the Run/Walk is only $10 (plus a $2 service fee) and registration for the Airplane Pull is $100 (plus a $9.50 service fee) for a team of 20. All event proceeds will benefit shelter pets through the Kennel Kompadres organization. We will even have loving, adoptable pets on-site!
Is the event rain or shine?
Yes. If there is a change to the schedule, we will post the information on this page and the Sunport Facebook Page. Gates open Saturday at 8:00 am, with the 5k beginning at 9:00 am; the airplane pull begins at 10:00 am and gates close at 2:00 pm. Please note: no backpacks, coolers, firearms, weapons or pets (besides service animals) will be allowed.
What is the 5k Run/Walk
Exactly what it says, but on a runway! How many times in your life will you be able to run or walk on a runway? Plus, it’s all for fun and charity. Sorry, no prizes for runners or walkers (besides your event T-shirt!) just the satisfaction of completed the event and helped a shelter pet.
What IS the actual Plane Pull?
The Plane Pull is a fun, team competition to see who can pull a nearly 100,000 pound Boeing 727 the fastest. Teams are made up of 20 members, who line up adjacent to a huge rope attached to the aircraft. The starter signals when to start and starts the stopwatch. After the team pulls the aircraft 12 feet, the stopwatch stops and the elapsed time is recorded as the team score. The team who pulls the plane 12 feet in the shortest amount of time wins! First, second and third places will be awarded.
Who can participate in the Plane Pull?
The Plane Pull is a team competition, so gather 19 of your coworkers, friends or family members (teams are made up of 20 people) and start lifting those weights! The Plane Pull is open to corporate groups, service organizations, churches, individuals – anyone who can organize a group and get people motivated to try something new and fun!
How do I register?
It’s easy! Click here and select the event you would like to participate in and follow the instructions. You can also register on the day of the event and we can register you or your team.
Where is the event and where to I park?
The event will be held on the north end of the former Runway 17/35, just south and east of the intersection of Gibson and Girard. See bottom of this page for a map of where to park. Parking is free and we will have complimentary shuttles to bring you on to the airfield.
If I (and my team) are only doing the plane pull, how do I know what time we are pulling?
As we get closer to the event, we will email the individual who registered your team a schedule.
What about bringing my family, friends and pets to cheer me on?
Bring your family, friends and coworkers to see you run/walk/pull, but please leave your pets at home. Animals – unless they’re service dogs or the adoptable pets at the event – are not allowed on the tarmac, and don’t appreciate the loud airplane noises anyway (the Plane Pull site is close to an operating runway).
The event is open to the public with free admission, and there are activities and live music.
