UPDATE: The runway was reopened on-schedule on April 3rd. As always, the FAA determines the traffic pattern, based on weather conditions and other factors.
The Albuquerque International Sunport will close the east/west runway (Runway 8/26) beginning on Monday March 5th for a period of approximately four weeks for maintenance and safety upgrades. All commercial and most other air traffic will be shifted to the northeast/southwest runway (Runway 3/21) during this period.
The closure will enable crews to install more efficient LED centerline lights, which will also improve safety, replace sections of concrete that are damaged and remove military aircraft arresting systems that are no longer needed.
The use of Runway 3/21 will increase over flights in parts of the city, but specific takeoff and landing patterns are determined by the FAA and will vary based on weather conditions and other factors.
