Albuquerque International Sunport 2013
• The Albuquerque International Sunport welcomed 5,382,223 passengers in 2012.
• ABQ’s freight center moved over 64,000 tons of cargo in 2012.
Airline Services
• There were 147,451 takeoffs and landings,or an average of 404 per day, in 2012 at ABQ: 60,643 by major airlines; 31,553 by commuter airlines, 24,204 by military aircraft; and 26.669 by general aviation aircraft.
• ABQ is served by six major commercial carriers: American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, United, and US Airways. It also receives regular service from commuter airline New Mexico Airlines. Air Cargo service is provided by FedEx and UPS.
• Southwest Airlines is ABQ’s largest carrier; it handled over 55% of ABQ’s 2012 passengers.
• ABQ offers nonstop service to 22 cities, including: Atlanta, Baltimore (BWI), Chicago (Midway/O’Hare), Dallas (DFW/ Love Field), Denver, Houston (Bush/Hobby), Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Oakland, Orlando, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle/Tacoma, St. Louis, Tucson, Washington (Dulles). Nonstop in-state service is offered to Carlsbad.
Federal Facilities
• ABQ shares its runways with Kirtland Air Force Base, which provides aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) services for ABQ.
• Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) facilities in Albuquerque include the Airport’s District Office, Air Traffic Control Tower, Automated Flight Service Station, and Flight Standards District Office.
• The Transportation Security Administration (“TSA”) occupies office space at the historic Old Terminal Building and at the security-screening checkpoint.
• The National Weather Service and the U.S. Postal Service Express Mail Facility are also located on the airport. The office for Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”), which is responsible for processing international flights and international cargo, is also located at ABQ.
Sunport Facilities
• The Terminal Building has approximately 600,000 sq. ft. of total space including 22 gates in the A and B Concourses used by the major commercial air carriers, the E Gate area, which accommodates the commuter airlines, and a 30,000 sq. ft. security screening checkpoint, and a meeter/ greeter waiting area.
• In May 2009, the Sunport embarked on Terminal Optimization Project, which created new food and beverage concession locations, constructed new restrooms and renovated other existing restrooms, expanded certain gate hold room areas, and incorporated new environmentally friendly “green” Terminal Building systems. The final phase of this project was completed at the end of 2012.
• ABQ’s elevation is 5,355 feet. Its latitude and longitude are 35 degrees, 02 minutes North and 106 degrees, 37 minutes West.
ABQ has three runways:
• 08/26 - an east-west air carrier runway, 13,793 ft. by 150 ft.
• 03/21 - a northeast-southwest air carrier runway, 10,000 ft. by 150 ft.
• 12/30 - a northwest-southeast general aviation runway, 6,000 ft. by 150 ft.
• There are two Fixed Base Operators (“FBOs”) located at ABQ: Cutter Flying Service and Atlantic Aviation.
• Corporate jet manufacturer Eclipse Aerospace (formerly Eclipse Aviation) will continue to service Eclipse 500 aircraft at ABQ, with plans to continue manufacturing in the future.
Economic Development
• Approximately 3,600 people are employed at ABQ.
• ABQ’s Master Plan Update, approved in 2004 determined that civilian activities at the ABQ produced an economic impact of $2.13 billion in 2001 and supported 38,579 jobs in the Albuquerque Area. It predicts that impact will grow to 2.5 billion and 47,077 jobs by the year 2010.
Customer Services
• Ground transportation from the Sunport to locations throughout the Albuquerque Metropolitan Area and northern New Mexico is provided by various cab companies, door-todoor shuttles, buses, limousines, rental car companies, out of town shuttles and hotel/motel courtesy vehicles.
• ABQ rental car companies include Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, and Thrifty and are located in the Consolidated Rental Car Center, approximately 1/2 mile west of the Terminal Building. Access to the Rental Car Center is provided via a shuttle bus system.
• There are a variety of retail stores throughout the Sunport offering items ranging from souvenirs and sundries to authentic Indian jewelry and unique one-of-a-kind contemporary pieces.
• Hungry? The Sunport offers a wide range of food and beverage concessions to satisfy every palate. The new food and beverage program is now complete, featuring a relocated food court and sit-down restaurant.
• Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) for various banks are located on the 2nd and 3rd levels of the Terminal Building prior to the security-screening checkpoint, and in A and B Concourses.
• Facilities for persons with disabilities include elevators in the parking structure and each of the Terminal Building’s three levels provide wheelchairs, Braille signage, wheelchair-accessible restrooms and drinking fountains, and telecommunications devices for the deaf (“TDD”).
• Airport and tourist information may be obtained from the Information Booth on the baggage claim level. The booth is staffed by Albuquerque Convention and Visitor’s Bureau volunteers.
• The Albuquerque International Sunport Art Collection contains over 120 works of art valued at approximately $1.5 million. The collection can be viewed in the Main Terminal, the Old Terminal Building and at the Rental Car Center. The works are by New Mexico artists.
• ABQ maintains an aircraft noise monitoring system, which is a community communications
program and an aircraft flight tracking system.
