Dinner Cook

Volunteer Donates a Meal and Enjoys Dinner with Residents.

Meal Preparation:

Prepare the meal at home or purchase it. The meal should consist of a main course, vegetable and/or salad, bread or rolls, and a dessert that can feed up to 18 men, or 8 women.

Arrival and Set Up:

Meals begin at 6:00pm. If you arrive about 10 minutes early, you will have time to lay out the food and reheat anything that has gotten cold. There are stoves and microwaves at both locations. The tables will be set ahead of time by the residents. All you have to do is show up with the food!

The Gathering:

Just before the meal begins, we gather around the table and introduce ourselves by first name only. The introduction is followed by a blessing said by a resident or guest.

The Meal:

Following the blessing, residents and guests proceed to the serving table where they fill their plates. Returning to the dinner table, everyone digs in!

The meal usually lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. As the meal winds down, the residents will clear and wash all dishes.
